How to Use Your Design by Color Decks to Plan a Flower Garden

Create Your Garden® is a valuable design tool for landscape designers to use with your clients to select perennial plants and shrubs for a flower garden. The Create Your Garden® landscape designer Design by Color package includes nine decks of 3 1/2" x 5" cards featuring perennial plants and shrubs. Each deck comes in a clear vinyl package suitable for storage.

All plants are hardy at least to zone 5 and most to zone 3 or 4. Bloom periods range from early spring through autumn. The plants include a wide variety of sizes, shapes, textures and bloom types and have varying light and moisture requirements.

How to Use Your Design by Color Decks

After you have a preliminary design for your client's landscape or garden, you are ready to begin selecting the specific plants that will grace the finished design. Create Your Garden is perfect for this phase of the design process.

Create Your Garden decks are organized by color. The first step is to have your client select the colors they would like to have in their garden design. Clients can look through each of the decks to decide which colors most appeal to them.

As the designer, you then select plants from the decks the customer chose that suit the specific growing conditions at the design site, considering sun and shade, soil type and moisture requirements. From the Superior Shrubs and Fantastic Foliage decks, you also select shrubs and foliage plants that accent or blend with the chosen color scheme.

From the cards you select, the customer chooses the plants and shrubs they like best. Now you're ready to apply your knowledge and skill to incorporate the appropriate shrubs, plants and foliage from the chosen cards into the finished design. Create Your Garden  will enable you to create the perfect plant list for your client's garden.
